Does red meat release methane gas?..if so is it enough to harm the ozone layer?

I heard something about this on the radio. Came in the middle of the conversation. They were saying that by not eating meat, vegetarians are harming the earth?!?!?!Does red meat release methane gas?..if so is it enough to harm the ozone layer?
No red meat does not release metane gas, but cows because of eating large amounts of grass do. When organic matter decomposes it releases gases but not enough to harm the ozone layer.Does red meat release methane gas?..if so is it enough to harm the ozone layer?
Yes, red meat farts alot when it is alive and mooing.
Cows produce methane when they burp, but methane is not harmful to the ozone layer. It is, however, a greenhouse gas, which in large amounts will cause global warming. Considering that the majority of red meat eaters eat beef produced on large scale cattle ranches and the amount of methane produced from those large numbers of cattle, it would be safe to say that meat-eaters are contributing significantly to global warming in addition to other associated environmental problems such as bacterial pollution from feces run-off and overgrazing of pasture lands. .
The amount of cattle on earth and the amount of meat you eat will do absolutely NOTHING to the Ozone layer. Ozone is destroyed with chlorine based compounds. Methane adds to the GREENHOUSE effect which is completely different.

North America survived fine with millions, maybe even billions of buffalo and now people are worried about cows? Nuh uh...

The biggest problem with greenhouse gasses comes from our cars, second biggest comes from industries.
The answer above is correct about the source of the gas, but the comment about the ozone layer is irrelevant.

Methane is a greenhouse gas and much more effective than carbon dioxide (about 20x more effective if memory serve me correctly).
